Hey Handler, Don't Be a Moose!

Does your dog drop bars or refuse obstacles in "weird" situations? It may be, that you're a MOOSE on an agility course! Find out why and how to stop being one!

Did You Just Call Me a Moose?

A moose might stand in the headlights of a moving car like a handler may stand in a dog’s path in agility. For a driver of the car this is a scary situation, and he will try his best to avoid a crash: hit the brakes or go around the huge animal. Can you imagine how the dog feels seeing a handler in front of him?

“Don’t be a moose!” is a catch phrase loved by OneMind Dogs agility handlers worldwide. It was coined by OneMind Dogs Coach Jenni Leino when she was teaching a group of students a few years ago, trying to explain to them why the dog’s easily knock a bar, take a refusal or jump wide in a certain kind of situation. She tried to find a situation from a human perspective that the students could identify to.

The phrase is to be used in a loving manner when handlers need to recognize the dog’s line and move out of the way. OneMind Dogs’ goal is to help handlers’ see the dog’s point of view – and make it easier to be at the right place at the right time.

Our mission is to give a happy life to dogs by helping people become amazing dog owners. We are passionate about increasing the mutual understanding between the dog and the owner, making a life together more enjoyable for both.
